JN-RD-6019 IEEE802.15.4 USB Expansion Board

The IEEE 802.15.4 USB Expansion Board can be used in conjunction with a Jennic wireless microcontroller module to provide an easy way of interfacing a host machine (such as a PC) to a wireless network based on the IEEE 802.15.4 protocol standard, where this network may additionally employ the ZigBee PRO or JenNet networking protocol.
The USB Expansion Board may be used with a Jennic JN5139- or JN5148-based module, allowing a direct USB connection between the host machine and the module, which then provides the radio interface to the wireless network. The board also enables connectivity to all the DIOs and analogue peripherals of the fitted wireless microcontroller. The board may also be configured to use a high accuracy 32.768-kHz crystal or clock module, if required.
Typical uses of the USB Expansion Board include:
- A complete and stable hardware environment for the development of IEEE 802.15.4, ZigBee PRO1 and Jenie/JenNet applications, enabling an accelerated time-to-market for wireless network products
- The basis of a packet sniffer for IEEE 802.15.4-based wireless communications.
- A means of integrating the host machine into a wireless network, typically as the network Co-ordinator
The small-footprint PCB of the USB Expansion Board provides all the necessary components to give a wireless microcontroller module access to a USB connection. All RF layout and decoupling issues are handled by the design of the module.
