JN-AN-1038 Programming Flash devices not supported by the JN51xx ROM-based boot loader

The Jennic JN5121 and JN513x wireless microcontrollers contain a boot loader in on-chip ROM. This boot loader provides functions that allow the reprogramming of an SPI-bus connected Flash chip. This Application Note describes a two-stage approach to programming other types of Flash chip.

In the first stage, the JN5121/JN513x RAM is loaded with custom-made Flash programming firmware. This firmware image implements the Jennic Boot Loader Serial Protocol to enable programming of the attached Flash chip via the SPI bus.
