Our vision

Here at NXP Low Power RF, we know that our world class solutions are simply not arrived at as a consequence of chance. They are the result of our long term vision and commitment to provide you with the comprehensive solutions that you need to be successful. It’s a commitment where we take on certain responsibilities:

  • to maintain intelligence about market trends and standardisation activities, and to reflect this in our solutions to you
  • to continuously exercise engineering innovation in our products and technologies
  • to drive market adoption and growth, by seeding innovation in standards based technology and promoting open methodologies with source code and tools
  • to comprehensively support your growing needs

Everything we do aims to ensure your complete success, because we know with your success comes ours...

Taking a role in standards bodies and workgroups

Standardisation is served at the core of our product ethos. All of our low power wireless solutions are based upon the IEEE802.15.4 standard, and the specification of higher layer protocols above this are the focus of many standards bodies and workgroups, as well as many of our own innovations. As a market leading provider, we hold assorted leading roles within standards bodies and workgroups, to provide amongst things technical steer, Marcom and PR drive, and participation in interoperability and testing events.

Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF)

We take a leading role within the IETF’s 6LoWPAN workgroup. Our engineering teams provide technical steer and drive through their extensive experience and knowledge, and collectively the workgroup ensures that IPv6 for IEEE802.15.4 based solutions serves market requirements effectively and efficiently.

The IETF is large open international community of network designers, operators, vendors and researches concerned with the evolution of the Internet architecture and smooth operation of the Internet. The IETF presents its efforts through technical workgroups that are formed and tasked with the development of specifications to support the evolution of Internet based technologies into emerging areas.

The 6LoWPAN workgroup is concerned with providing Internet based technologies into the area of IEEE802.15.4 based low power wireless networking, looking to provide IPv6 connectivity down to remote sensors and controllers.

IPSO Alliance

As a promoter and founding member of the IPSO Alliance we have both chaired and participated in activities to drive promotion and market awareness of IP technologies for Smart Objects.

The IPSO Alliance is a global non-profit organization serving the various communities seeking to establish the Internet Protocol as the network for the connection of Smart Objects by providing coordinated marketing efforts available to the general public. There purpose is to provide a foundation for industry growth through building stronger relationships, fostering awareness, providing education, promoting the industry, generating research, and creating a better understanding of IP and its role in connecting Smart Objects.

ZigBee Alliance

We work extensively with the ZigBee Alliance to drive technical solutions and standardisation efforts, and to promote the ZigBee brand through marketing activities and shows.

The ZigBee Alliance is an association of companies working together to enable reliable, cost-effective, and low-power wirelessly networked monitoring and control products based on an open global standard. The Alliance maintains and publishes the ZigBee standard, which both defines network behaviour and the application profiles by which multiple OEM vendors can create interoperable products.

The Open approach

At NXP we are committed to providing open development platforms and solutions. We believe strongly that this is how to stimulate market adoption and growth, and as so has always been a part of our vision and strategy.

Open Tools

We continue to promote open tools, to facilitate the standalone developer and to facilitate organisations that have cross-functional development teams. We recognise that tools can become a barrier to adoption, particularly with larger development teams and this is why our development platforms have always and continue to remain free to download and use with our products.

Equally we continue to track industry trends and this is why today we utilise the industry adopted Eclipse development platform throughout.

Open Source

Support of Open Source methods has always been a part of our vision. Open Source solutions stimulate and drive market adoption, and the evidence is clear to see. Take for instance the Internet, the foundation of which is the effort of the IETF through many collective man hours of open standards development; it's global adoption is extreme evidence of open standards and open source stimulating market adoption.

At NXP we have always, and continue to employ standards based components in our software solutions. Where we make enhancements or introduce new features to benefit usability and functionality, then our vision commits us towards making these components available to you and development community peers.

Product Innovation

Our engineering teams operate at all levels to provide the best solutions possible; not only to satisfy or exceed market requirements, but to create technically rich solutions to drive innovation in end product design. Time and again, our products drive the bounds and set benchmarks for technical performance and specification, and it’s all through the innovation that the runs at our core. And, as sure as standards define the baseline of our products and architectures, it’s our innovations that offer you the opportunity to embrace technically unique functionality and performance in your end products for market differentiation.

Support

We take pride in ensuring that at all levels developers are able to get the technical assistance needed to take their product from conception to production in the quickest time.

Collateral

A growing library of support collateral including application notes, user guides, reference manuals, reference designs and white papers, looks to serve the developer with the technical knowhow on a range of subjects; enabling them to understand how our technologies and solutions work.

Forums

Should the support collateral not provide the full detail, then a support community accessed through our user support forums provides the opportunity to post detailed questions to a community of peer developers.

In the field

Through distribution and local sales offices, engineering field support can be provide to offer technical assistance and training, enabling development teams to fast track their companies commercial product development.

We are ever committed to providing the most comprehensive solutions for your success...
