4: ZigBee Applications > Descriptors

Descriptors

Information about a ZigBee node and its applications are stored on the node in "descriptors". There are three mandatory and two optional types of descriptor.

"Node" Descriptors

The following are mandatory descriptors that relate to the node device:

  • Node descriptor: Contains basic information about the device
  • Power descriptor: Contains information on how the device is powered

"Application" Descriptors

The following descriptors relate to an application endpoint on a node (there is one of these descriptors for each endpoint).

  • Simple descriptor: A mandatory descriptor that contains basic information about the application endpoint (and is described in more detail below).
  • Complex descriptor: An optional descriptor
  • User descriptor: An optional descriptor

Simple Descriptor

The mandatory Simple descriptor for an application endpoint includes:

  • The endpoint address in the node
  • The Application Profile that the endpoint implements
  • The Application Profile device identifier and version
  • Whether there are corresponding Complex and User descriptors
  • Lists of input and output clusters that the application uses and provides, respectively
