Detailed Architecture

This page describes the ZigBee software stack in more detail. The levels and components of the stack are illustrated in the animation below. You can view a description of each component by clicking on its block in the diagram.

In addition, a Security Plane (not shown) spans and interacts with the APS and NWK layers. This provides security services - for example, security key management, datastream encryption and decryption. It may use hardware functions provided in the node to perform the encode and decode functions efficiently.

The ZDO, ZDO Management Plane, APS, NWK and Security Plane are all ZigBee defined.
