Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) provides a two-way communications infrastructure between business systems and devices within a Home Area Network (HAN), to enable real-time monitoring, control and information exchange to be provided.
The infrastructure allows utility companies or suppliers to present real-time pricing information to customers, to encourage alternate usage patterns. Alternatively, the HAN system with smart communicating appliances, for instance a washing machine or dishwasher, can be configured to operate these devices during the low-cost energy periods.

Service providers, may also by the agreement of the end customer, provide a service to automatically carry out load control within the home to manage demand-response, with possible customer incentives attached.
Jennic's wireless technology will enable your AMI products.
A ZigBee PRO networking stack and Smart Energy profile running on a JN5148 wireless microcontroller provides an ideal starting point for AMI systems. The support of In-home Displays, Programmable Communicating Thermostats and Load Controllers allows easy system integration, while ZigBee PRO ensures interoperability of devices from different vendors.
Equally Jennic’s 6LoWPAN / IPv6 networking solution offers an alternate IP (Internet Protocol) based connectivity solution for seamless connectivity of metering and HAN devices into an IP backhaul system.
